Blood tests are one of the most common diagnostic tools used by doctors, but the results can be confusing for patients. At MEMBH's Laboratory Department, we believe informed patients make better health decisions.
Common Blood Test Components Explained
Complete Blood Count (CBC): Red Blood Cells carry oxygen — low levels may indicate anemia. White Blood Cells fight infection — high levels suggest infection or inflammation. Platelets help blood clot.
Lipid Profile: Total Cholesterol (below 200 mg/dL), LDL Bad Cholesterol (below 100 optimal), HDL Good Cholesterol (above 60 protective), Triglycerides (below 150 normal).
Blood Sugar: Fasting glucose should be 70-100 mg/dL. Levels above 126 mg/dL on two tests may indicate diabetes.
Kidney Function (Creatinine, BUN): Elevated levels may suggest kidney issues.
Liver Function (ALT, AST): High levels can indicate liver damage.
Always discuss your results with your doctor at MEMBH — numbers alone don't tell the whole story.
